How to do GIVEAWAYS to receive FOLLOWERS that will convert into SALES

A giveaway is when you give something in exchange for a subscription, comment or like.


If done wrong, giveaways can waste your budget and ruin your Instagram insights. Let’s see how to run a giveaway that will bring value to your followers and generate leads for your business.


The first and most important rule is DON’T PARTICIPATE in the giveaways organised by big giveaway companies that give away:

1. Money

2. Products that don’t reflect your business

Or their participants are all over the world.


By participating in those kinds of giveaways, you attract people who want a new iPhone, or some cash, but not people who are genuinely interested in your products. Usually, when those giveaways end and the winner has been announced, you’ll see many followers who will unsubscribe from your profile. As to Instagram algorisms – an instant amount of new followers is considered suspicious, and you might get banned from Instagram.



Another disadvantage of those kinds of giveaways is that if you, let’s say, generate 10k followers from the giveaway and they don’t stay active on your profile, Instagram will consider your content not interesting (because your followers don’t react to it), and will not show it in the feed.


As a result, you will end up with the page that:

- Has 0 engagement

- Doesn’t get organic reach

And you, most likely, will need to open a new page and start again.


So let’s see how we can make our giveaway effective:

1. Offer your product or services in the giveaway to attract a targeted audience who truly want your product

2. Team up with people from similar niches to make a gift more attractive and to exchange the audience. For instance, if you sell facial care products – team up with a bath bomb and a pyjama shop to create a perfect self-care bundle. This way you will get exposure to your brand from 2 other shops with your targeted audience, and make the giveaway more effective 😊

3. Run boosted posts on your giveaway to reach a wider audience

4. Make sure you showcase well what you are giving away. Include a hint that it’s a giveaway in the visual, or have a high-quality image of the product to make it attractive. People must look at the photo and instantly think that they can’t live without this item anymore😊

5. Write a caption with a detailed description of what you are giving away, how to use it, or how the customer will benefit from this product

6. Have clear expectations from people who participate in the giveaway. This includes:

- Don’t overcomplicate your Giveaway conditions. No one will follow 20 accounts, like 3 last posts, leave comments under the post and send the post to 5 other friends. Please keep it simple😊

- Include information such as – who can participate, when the giveaway ends, how the winner will be announced, and age or location restrictions.

Ideally, I would suggest running a fortnightly giveaway every 4 weeks and planning. Try to find businesses with similar targeted audiences and shoot them a DM to see if they want to collaborate. Usually, everyone is very interested and open to new ideas 😊
